MOE’S Takes Manhattan for Lo Bosworth’s Apartment Makeover

June 26, 2015

Last month, MOE’S took a trip to the Big Apple for Lo Bosworth’s NYC apartment makeover.Lo partnered with Homepolish to expertly style a curated collection of pieces from AllModern, including our Madison Sofa in purple, Pura Coffee Table and Lamb Fur Cushions. Fresh and feminine with just the right amount of rough-around-the-edges (anyone else drooling over those exposed brick walls?), Lo’s new space is a welcome retreat for a young professional with a keen eye for design and an interest in all things lifestyle.

Lo used the deep blush tone of this modern sofa to balance a neutral palette.

Lo created a layered effect by tucking textured ottomans under a clear coffee table and styling eclectic accessories on top.

Pura Coffee Table Clear Glass, $499

Lo’s cuddle buddies include fluffy pillows that look as soft as they feel.

3rd Floor Launch Party

February 26, 2015

Cheers to an incredible night! Last Wednesday, February 4, we teamed up with VITA Magazine to celebrate the official launch of our 3rd floor showroom. Joined by friends, family, designers and media alike, we showed off our new 13,000 ftretail space in style.

The excitement was palpable during our first-ever Instagram Design Challenge, featuring three noted local creatives, Leonie Markhorst of NOA // NOIR, Jill Lansky of The August Diaries and Sophia Hsin of Sophia Hsin Photography. Each talented tastemaker turned a barebones vignette into an envy-inducing space in under 10 minutes using only MOE’s private-label home accessories.

Left: A pre-challenge powwow between Leonie, Sophia and Jill. Right: Leonie hurrying to pick her home accents.

When the clock ran out, guests voted for their favourite stylish space on Instagram. Leonie Markhorst, founder and style blogger for NOA // NOIR, took the top spot in the challenge with her edgy, minimalist design.

Guests sipped on bevvies from Okanagan Spring Brewery and Le Vieux Pin, while snacking on bites from Savoury Chef Foods before they got silly in the Downtown Photobooth where they posed for take-home black and white portraits.

No one could resist a stop in the photobooth, pretty props and all.

How many years have you been with MOE’S?

I’m coming up on my six-year anniversary with MOE’S this November.

Name your signature design style:

West coast contemporary with collected vintage touches.

Favourite MOE’S memory?

After we completed an extensive renovation late last year, we held an event with Gray Magazine to show off our new digs. Seeing all of our wonderful designers and dear customers show up to celebrate with us was very touching and it was a really special night. Definitely a good memory!

Name one thing any homeowner can do to instantly perk up their pad for under $250:

The easiest bang for your buck is to get a cool and colourful vase, like our Small Verge Vase, to go on your mantle or coffee table. Coordinate it with a blanket and throw pillows (I love the Graphic Pillow) in complimentary hues for a simple yet effective punch of colour and pattern.

Meet MOE’S: Michelle Shantz

October 26, 2014

Meet Michelle Shantz, one of our fantastic supervisors at our flagship location in Vancouver. Michelle is a seasoned decorator and sales associate with a love for all things design. She’s also an avid blogger and founded the lifestyle and interior design blog My Never Ending Daydream.

Working at MOE’S lets Michelle tap into her creativity by helping customers furnish and accessorize their dream homes. Keep scrolling to find out all about our very own design maven.

Michelle Shantz

A bit of everything. I studied interior design at BCIT, but proceeded with a career in finance. I went back to school for film production and was immediately drawn to set decorating. It became clear that I was passionate about decorating, which led me to MOE’S.

How many years have you been with MOE’S?

I’m coming up on my first anniversary!

Favourite MOE’S memory?

The tent sale this September is my favorite MOE’S memory so far. It was the busiest I have ever seen the store. Customers were lining up outside before we even opened!

Name one thing any homeowner can do to instantly perk up their pad for under $250:

Accessorize! Throw pillows, artwork and decorative accents make a huge difference in your space and MOE’S has a TON of great options for under $250. I currently have my eye on the Impression Wall Décor. The colours are beautiful and it’s only $139.

Name your signature design style:

Eclectic. I love modern, rustic and industrial furniture as well as refurbished antiques. I think mixing styles makes for a far more interesting space.

Meet MOE’S: Moe Samieian Jr.

August 26, 2014

Last month we announced the start of our new feature, Meet MOE’S, and kicked it off by introducing you to Sara Samieian. This month, say hello to her brother, Moe Jr. Just like Sara, Moe Jr. was born to work at MOE’S Home Collection – you could say it’s in his name.

Without further ado, meet Moe Jr. our fearless (and often jet-setting) vice president and CFO!

Moe Samieian Jr.

Vice President and CFO

I studied at UBC in the Faculty of Commerce, and graduated with a major in accounting.

How many years have you been with MOE’S?

I started with MOE’S right after graduating from university, nine years ago. I felt it was the best opportunity for me, not to mention, there was a lot of potential for growth. I also wanted to be a part of something that I had a stake in (it is the family company!)  I loved working part time during university, so it felt like a natural progression.

Favourite MOE’S memory?

It’s not really one moment per se, but making it through the economic crisis of 2008 stands out in my mind. We faced our biggest challenge yet, but we worked hard to get through it and came out of the situation feeling triumphant.

Beyond that, my job affords me the opportunity to travel around the world to incredible places like Italy, New York and China. In the past few weeks, I’ve gone from catching the US Open to seeking the perfect pieces for our showrooms in Shanghai.

Name one thing any homeowner can do to instantly perk up their pad for under $250:

Add a fresh coat of paint to the walls and a few new decorative throw pillows throughout the house. I suggest our Blue Ring Pillow – it packs a punch.

Name your signature design style:

Clean and contemporary, but I like to mix in rustic elements with natural wood.

Meet MOE’S: Sara Samieian

As a family owned business, there’s nothing more important to us than the relationships we build and the people we work with. You put a lot of trust in us to help create beautiful and functional homes, and we think you should know who you’re dealing with. So, once a month, we’ll be showcasing one of the members of Team MOE’S.

To kick things off, meet Sara Samieian – general manager of our retail division and proud mom to Pinot the Westie (who you may recognize from Instagram).

Sara was born to work with MOE’S (literally!). Her father, Moe Samieian, founded the company and she grew up watching him build his dream. Once Sara graduated from university, she knew she wanted to get her hands dirty and help her father continue to build the family’s legacy. Her leadership style is anything but conventional. As general manager of the retail division, you can find her working from her office on our flagship location’s sales floor (or joining her team at the cash desk), trusty laptop in hand.

Sara Samieian

General Manager, Retail Division

I studied at UBC with a major in economics and minor in commerce.

How many years have you been with MOE’S?

I’ve been with MOE’S full-time since I graduated from university 10 years ago. I wanted to help grow the family business, and it seemed like the perfect way to get involved.

Favourite MOE’S memory:

When I took over the management of our flagship location off Terminal Avenue. I loved this moment because I got to work with the team I work with now, which I absolutely adore. I realized my passion lies in retail and buying, rather than working in an office. That’s why my desk is on the sales floor, as opposed to a private area.

Name one thing any homeowner can do to instantly perk up their pad for under $250:

Wall décor is the fastest, easiest and often most cost-effective way to update a home. I love our Smart Frog and Equinox wall décor. I have them in my own home and they’re so bright and cheery.

Name your signature design style:

A combination of rustic and modern. I have a very rustic dining table made from reclaimed wood with modern white leather chairs – it’s my favourite set in my home. I also love my grey comfy couch, which can work with both rustic and modern pieces.
